There are a couple of reasons why a pet might need to be changed on Moderneopets, which fall under the following:

• The pet contains insensitive material.
• An artist involved has requested their assets to be removed from the site.
  • Though we generally protect against this happening via our clause in the artist rules that all artists agree to when joining onto our art team, there sometimes can be circumstances where we will comply for the artist to have their assets removed.
  • Despite that users may be upset when cases like this happen, we do it because we're not faultless and may make mistakes which cause the artists to not wish for their art to be used officially by us any longer, and we respect those wishes in those situations. (Or if they have exceptional circumstances that may otherwise want them to have their art removed in general.)

Chances are, someone out there has a pet that's going to be changed which always brings the worry of a pet you love the design of no longer becoming something that you want. Whilst this is unavoidable, we will provide compensation for anyone who has the pet changed at the time of its change. You will be awarded the item required to create that colour and also an animalis to go along side it, here are some examples:

• Chocolate / Robot / Ice
  • The user will be given the appropriate Zappermajig and an Animalis.
• MSP
  • The user will be given a Malevolent Energy and an Animalis.
• Paintable Colours
  • The user will be given the appropriate Paint Brush and an Animalis.
• Fountain Only Colours
  • The user will be given a Eritque Arcus and an Animalis.
• Other Instances
  • If it does not have any item attached and isn't a fountain colour, an item will probably be created.
    If the colour has a Chia Pop that will most likely be given.
    An Animalis will also be given.

So in the end you will get an extra pet slot and a means to create another one of the pet of the colour that was changed, whislt keeping the changed version of the pet involved. If you like the change then that's a win-win, and if you do not, you at least get some compensation.

Note: Some changes may be complete re-makes or partial depending on the situation.
