CSS/BBCode Rules

When using BBCode and CSS to customise your pages, shops and galleries - you agree not to hide or manipulate any data to trick other users. This includes but is not limited too spoofing account stats, pet stats/colours/species and shop items/prices. Doing this will result in you either losing the ability to customise your pages or even being banned depending on the severity of the rule break.

We do allow you do add overlays to your pet images in your lookup/pet lookups. If you want to re-draw your pet in a different pose or art style and have that as a CSS overlay for your pet page / user lookup - feel free. Clearly attempting to spoof the colour/species your pet is will result in being frozen if you try to trade that pet with another user and are not completely clear with them on what that pets species and colour is. (Since that would fall under scamming.)

Please avoid any flashing colours or very fast animations / images in your User Lookups/Shops/Customisable Pages. As this can trigger health issues in a lot of people. Those found with such animations will have their pages reset and if continued after, will be frozen.

Modifying your store to change the look of prices or images/item names is a serious offence and is also considered scamming, doing this will result in your account being frozen.

Prohibited Conduct

The following conduct / behaviour is prohibited on Moderneopets and all venues that are linked to Moderneopets such as the discord, forums and social media. Engaging in the following behaviour will result in a warning up to a permanent account ban (being frozen).

• Stalking, Harrassing, Discriminating against or threatening any member/staff.
  • False reporting with malicious intent/threatening to report is always considered harassment.
• Posting graphic content/having it in your custom pages. This includes:
  • Graphic Violence and Harm
    • Human & Animal Trafficking
    • Torture
    • Abduction / Kidnapping
    • Sexualizing Minors
    • Incest
    • Consent Violation
    • etc...
  • Fetish Material
  • Pornographic Content
  • Anything that wouldn't be suitable to explain to a 13 year old or under.
• Impersonating staff/members or backseat moderation.
  • It is not the place of regular members to reprimand (“mini-modding“) other players who they perceive as breaking the sites rules - it also makes the jobs of the moderators harder, since we now have guaranteed at least one infraction to deal with!
• Inciting or partaking in hate speech.
• Scamming or attempting to scam other users.
• Exploiting site bugs/glitches for personal gain.
• Cheating / Attempting to cheat or illegitimately modify any features/functions/requests.
• Use, using or conspiring to use Moderneopets for any illegal activity.
• Intentionally interfering with other users enjoyment of the site. a.k.a "Trolling"
  • Doxxing, calling out or publically shaming other players (including joining in on these acts, even if you weren't the one who "started it") all constitute as trolling.
  • Remember: Don't feed the trolls! If someone makes a statement that makes you uncomfortable (and isn't against the rules), it is okay to politely privately message them, if the behaviour continues please block them.
  • If you see something that you believe to be breaking the rules, instead of confronting the user, please report them to a moderator in private. Even if you are unsure if it's breaking a rule and just want to verify it, we're fine with reviewing it for you.
  • Circumventing any blocks or trying to call out users for blocking you is also constituted as trolling, if someone blocks you that's the end of it.
• Requesting or linking any pornographic / sexually explicit material/conduct.
• Using Bots / Botting on Moderneopets (automated scripts to do things for you)
• Using Scripts to get an unfair advantage over other users. (Restock Filters, etc...)
• Posting, distributing or divulging any personal information of other members/staff.
• Joking about being under age (13) will result in account termination to adhere to COPPA.
• Talking about, taking part of or displaying graphic violence/scenes.
• Partaking in, linking or encouraging Cybering / Erotic Roleplaying/Behaviour.
• Linking to any directly illegal/rule breaking content off-site.
• Selling Items/Currencies or site earnables for Real Life Currency. RLC Art Commissions are fine but at your own risk.

Vulgarity and Swearing

As a general rule of thumb, no language or imagery that is NSFW (Not Safe For Work) is permitted. We do, however allow some light swearing. Expletives that would be considered acceptable in a PG-13 environment are allowed, barring the following cases:

• Expletives that are sexually charged in the meaning of their usage.
  • (C*nt, Fuck as a verb, etc..)
• Any words or phrases that are racially or ethnically insensitive.
  • (N*gger, Pictures of swastikas, etc..)
• Any words targeting a minority that are defamatory or demeaning.
  • (F*ggot, R*tard, etc...)
• Any language used to purposely defame and/or demean the target/user.
  • As a general rule, don't target anyone with swearing.
  • (Ask a moderator if you're unsure if this has been broken.)

Exceptional Circumstances

At Moderneopets we generally take a "your business is yours" approach to matters that are not related to the site or discord and our social media accounts. However in the instance that a user is participating in activities that are illegal or violating our rules to an exceptionally heinous extent, we as the staff reserve the right to act as would be appropriate if it were performed on the main site.

Circumstances can include:

• Stalking / Harassment
• Dispersal of Illegal Content
• Dispersal of Scripts / Cheats for Moderneopets
• Any other situation as we see fit.

To make sure that you do not end up in trouble for off-site activity it is best to avoid using usernames/socials that have illegal content / associations tied to them whilst using our site / socials / discord. If you do end up using the same names then you risk exposing our userbase to content that can be harmful and we will have to take action.

(Yes this is a general "we can ban for any reason" clause. However just because we have this doesn't mean we're going to ban people for any stupid reason, this is just to cover exceptional circumstances where we may have to act outside of the given rule set.)

• Verbal Warning
• Written Warning.
• Restricted access to site features.
• Restricted ability to communicate with other users.
• Deduction of Items/Currency or removal of Pets.
• Temporary Account Closure.
• Permanent Account Closure.

We (Moderneopets) reserve the right to change/add/remove rules at any given point in time, though we will give a site announcement/news post when this occurs.
